Queen of Pop Madonna is collaborating with Crypto Payments startup Ripple to fundraise for the African nation of Malawi.
The Pop Icon announced the fundraiser Monday to celebrate her 60th birthday, declaring all donations would go to a non-profit organization ‘Raising Malawi’ she co-founded with American screenwriter Michael Berg in 2006, to support its work at the Home of Hope orphanage in Malawi. Prominently, Ripple is matching all donations made through the drive.
Eric van Miltenburg, Ripple’s senior vice president of business operations, stated the charity was important, as per a statement.
“We’re honored to be a part of Raising Malawi’s astounding work with some of the world’s most underserved children and are grateful to our investors at Sound Ventures for making the introduction to us and this important cause.”
As per Facebook donation page, the campaign started on 30th July and will go on till 31st August, and it has already raised around $26,000 from nearly 540 people within two days, almost halfway to the $60,000 target.
Madonna started the fundraising event will serve as a gift “connecting my global family with this beautiful nation and the children who need our help most” for her birthday.
As per International Monetary fund, Malawi is one of the poorest nations in the world, with about 50% of the nations’ population living below the poverty line.
