Etihad Airways Partners With Winding Tree

According to Reuter’s report, Etihad Airways has partnered with a Switzerland-based blockchain company to build its internal information systems. Winding Tree is a decentralized business-to-business marketplace built on Ethereum. It provides logistical support for Etihad Airway’s distribution system.
The collaboration aims to proceed with third-party operators that currently manage its inventories – such as flight times, travel itineraries, and baggage tracking. Tristan Thomas, Etihad’s director of digital and innovation said to Reuters that these parties often provide an overpriced service.
Pedro Anderson, Winding Tree’s chief operating officer stated:
“We have been doing experiments and new solutions on the platform. Ultimately, that benefits the consumer. When there’s innovation, you start to have disruption, you have competition which results in better prices for the consumer.”
Tristan Thomas said:
“Very few have chosen to disrupt the distribution world and that’s because those are major players with very significant margins that have acted to keep that kind of a closed shop.”
Winding Tree has been already partnered with several airlines, hotels, tourism companies, and provides real-time information systems. In 2017, Winding Tree also partnered with Lufthansa to build a blockchain-based travel marketplace backed by a cryptocurrency.
