A cryptocurrency trader from Lanseria, South Africa named Andrew was lucky enough to escape death. He was kidnapped, tortured and drugged by a group of individuals who had originally invited him for a cryptocurrency presentation.
According to the South African publication Soweto Urban, Andrew made a contact on Facebook who called him to a residence at Natui Street, Meadowlands Zone Five to conduct a presentation on cryptocurrencies. As soon as he entered the door, he was captured by an unknown person and drugged using a cloth soaked in a sleep-inducing chemical. He fell unconscious.
Once he regained consciousness, he found himself in a different location surround by 3 men and two women who took off all his clothes, tortured him using physical violence while asking for his bank account credentials and password for his bitcoin wallet.
Andrew did his level best to keep his credentials private but this did not last too long as the kidnappers threatened to kill him using a hot iron rod.
In the end, the kidnappers were successful in gaining 800,000 South African Rand (about $58500) in Bitcoins to their BTC address and an additional 100,000 South African Rand ($7300) to the kidnapper’s bank account. The also took the two iPhones that Andrew had, along with 3,000 South African Rand ($220) in cash.
After the money was extorted, the kidnappers placed a blindfold on his eyes and threw Andrew on Klipriveier road. He was later admitted to the Alberton Union Hospital by the local police and is currently being treated for burns and wounds that are present all over his body. The police have begun the search operation for these kidnappers.
