Crypto Mining malware has become very popular by letting hackers use people’s computers to mine virtual currencies. Recently A Russian based computer forensics and information security firm, Group-IB revealed their research in a report entitled, “2018 Cryptocurrency Exchanges-User Accounts Leaks Analysis.” The research claimed that crypto hackers mainly targets Americans.
Recently, Citrix published a report on its survey which stated that most of the companies in the UK revealed that they had found mining malware on their systems. According to another report, 60% of hacked companies told that more than fifty systems were attacked and more than a hundred systems were mining.
Detecting mining malware is not always easy. The survey says that while network monitoring software detected the malware in over a third of cases, the company employees also reported a similar number and 16 percent found the interruptions after devices sank in performance.
The research also revealed that still few companies which are affected are not aware of the attacks.
Kaspersky’s report said:
“The total number of users who encountered ransomware fell by almost 30%, from 2,581,026 in 2016-2017 to 1,811,937 in 2017-2018. The number of targeted attacks on businesses, to install miners, raises questions about whether mining might eventually follow in the footsteps of ransomware actors.”
