The report mentions that KBA is going to be the first government institution in India that is offering a Corda blockchain development program. The initiative also provides training on technologies such as Hyperledger and Ethereum (ETH).

While cryptocurrency usage is a controversial topic in India, the country has been more open towards the Blockchain Technology. Recently, the government of the Indian state of Maharashtra was preparing a regulatory sandbox to test blockchain solutions across various applications.

The report also stated that several banks in Kerala have already begun the implementation of the Corda platform into their core banking systems. R3 leads to more than 300 companies working to build distributed systems to use certain fields such as insurance and financial services.

In January 2018, India’s leading policy institute NITI Aayog (Think Tank) announced that it will be using blockchain technology in several sectors including education, health, and agriculture.

The National Institute of Transforming India (NITI), the government’s primary policy-making body, was researching the use of blockchain technology with work toward a proof-of-concept (PoC) to try the decentralized technology on different kind of sectors.

Economic Times reported that the PoC will be used in many areas including education, healthcare, and agriculture which are identified as ‘key sectors’.

One of the senior government officials said:

It is a safe system for document verification in those pre-approved sectors”
